In the Lab at Thomas Swan
Some Year 8 students had the fantastic opportunity to take part in a STEM trip to Thomas Swan, a chemical manufacturing company based in Consett. Whilst at Thomas Swan students took part in various activities such as laboratory experiments, which investigated the viscosity of liquids and separation methods for these liquids. Students also had the opportunity to have a plant tour, so they could see first hand the machinery and logistics involved in working in a chemical plant. The trip finished off with a talk on the uses of graphene and the amazing possibilities that graphene brings into the world of technology. The students conducted themselves very well and hopefully the trip has inspired some budding scientists!
